Elemental RP1 track-focused sports car revealed

Heading for a dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week, the Elemental RP1 track-focused sports car has been revealed.

At the beginning of the month we ran a tease from a new start-up car maker teasing their track-focused sports car – the Elemental RP1 – and now, ahead of its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week, Elemental have done the full reveal of the RP1.

Due to be ready to sell by this time next year, Elemental bravely proclaim the RP1 as previewing a new generation of world class British sports cars, and the spec does at least offer more than a hollow promise, fingers crossed and lots of hype.

Based on a lightweight carbon and aluminium tub wrapped in body panels to fully enclose the underpinnings, has double wishbone suspension with inboard Eibach springs and Nitron dampers, 4-pot Caparo calipers and 17″ alloys.

Despite a track-focused design and setup, Elemental are confident you will be able to drive the RP1 to the track, waive a spanner and Allen key around for five minutes and be ready to be credible on track.

At the back is a rear subframe with a cassette-style system which will allow easy swapping of engines, with the RP1 getting a 2.0 litre Ford EcoBoost with 280bhp, a six-speed sequential ‘box and the option of a limited slip diff and different gearing iof required.

Other engine options are the Ford 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder EcoBoost and a 999cc Honda Fireblade lump.

First look at the Elemental RP1 in the flesh will be this weekend at Goodwood, but it doesn’t look like Elemental are any more likely to reveal prices for the RP1 then than now.
