Ferrari 458 Speciale A (that’s ‘A’ for Aperta) revealed

The Ferrari 458 Speciale A has been revealed ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show as a ‘Speciale Spider’ that’s the most powerful open-top Ferrari ever.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale A (the ‘A’ stands for Aperta – Italian for open) has been revealed this afternoon – ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut next week – as the most powerful open-top Ferrari ever, promising 0-62mph in just 3.0 seconds. Just 499 will be built.

And if you want to invest money in a new Ferrari, the 458 Speciale A will be a good shout; with just 499 being built (just like LaFerrari) it’s almost certain these rare 458s will appreciate in the coming years – just like the 599 Aperta has (although there were even fewer of those).

The 458 Speciale A gets the same engine as the 458 Speciale Coupe with a power output of 597bhp and maximum torque of 398lb/ft which, mated to the seven-speed semi-auto ‘box, means a 0-62mph of just 3.0 seconds – exactly the same as the Coupe.

That performance is helped by Ferrari making the folding roof from lightweight aluminium – which takes just 14 seconds to raise or lower – which has helped keep the weight of the Aperta to 1340kg – just 50kg more than the Coupe.

Just like the 458 Speciale Coupe, the Aperata gets active dynamics and  Slide Slip Angle Control – although it forsakes the Coupe’s glass cover for the engine bay – and manages to come with official emissions of 275g/km.

The show car (pictured above) gets a triple-layer yellow paint job with Blu Nart and Bianco Avus centre stripe, five-spoke alloys in Grigio Corsa, Blue Carbon Fibre for the dash, door panels and central tunnel and new seats in Alcantara with contrast stitching.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale A will debut at the Paris Motor Show next week, when we’d expect Ferrari to reveal a price around £230,000.
