The Ford FF1 – a single-seat, road-legal track car powered by Ford’ 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine – will get a public debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Ford built the FF1 as a showcase for the abilities of its little 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine, and it’s more than proved the point that modern 3-cylinder engines with small displacements and a bit of forced induction can be very appealing. In standard trim the FF1 produces 123 horses, but suitably tweaked to deliver a more fulsome 202 horses the FF1 took on the Nurburgring and managed to turn in a time of just 7:22 – quicker than a Zonda F, Enzo Ferrari, Nissan GT-R and 911 GT2 RS.
Built round a Formula Ford chassis with the 1.0 litre EcoBoost lump dropped in, the FF1 is actually road-legal and is able to provide sub-4 second 0-62mph acceleration, a top speed of more than 150mph and manage 100mpg (not all at the same time).
Ford has decided to take the FF1 to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July where it will join a mass of more powerful machinery to prove the point that the EcoBoost engine can be fun and frugal and offer real performance potential.
What is perhaps even more interesting than seeing the FF1 at Goodwood is that we’re hearing Ford are actively considering a limited production of the FF1, such has been the interest since thy built it.
It’ll be a brave move from Ford if they do (and they should), even if any run is likely to be small in numbers and high in price.

Only one seat less than the Volkswagen XL1 and promises a lot more fun!
