Ford Fiesta Sport package announced

With the problems car makers are facing at the moment, and the focus on all things eco, Ford has already made it clear that we are not going to see a Fiesta RS. Which has been a big disappointment to lovers of the fast Fiesta. But Ford has decided that they at least need to nod in the direction of a Fiesta RS, so they have announced the launch of the Ford Fiesta Sport.

Sadly, the Ford Fiesta Sport is not a performance package. But, unlike almost every other ‘Sport’ version from car makers on the market, it is not just a cosmetic job either. It genuinely offers something more sporty, and adds a few additional features that will make life a little more fun for those of us who enjoy spirited driving.

Visually, the Fiesta Sport can be identified by a new bottom grill treatment, darkened headlamps, front and rear aprons and a set of bigger sills. The rear apron gets a built-in diffuser, and the Fiesta Sport also get a new sets of 16″ wheels with chunkier tyres.

The interior comes in a choice of two colours – Anthracite and Blue. Features include a leather steering wheel and gear knob, Sports Seats and extra kit, including aircon, electric windows and central locking and an on-board computer.

But the Fiesta Sport actually gets a chassis tweak as well. Ride height is dropped by 9mm to give a more sporty setup (the Fiesta’s chassis dynamics are already very good), together with stiffer shock absorbers and springs and new steering geometry. You also have the choice of completely turning off the ESP for more fun.

Nice route to go for the Fiesta. The Fiesta Sport package will be available on three door versions of the Fiesta with the 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines or the 1.6 turbo diesel.
