Ford GT supercar track version gets 700bhp
Ford has revealed a track-only version of their GT Supercar at Goodwood, with 700bhp on tap and chassis and aerodynamic tweaks.
The Ford GT Supercar has already had its limited run of cares increased from 1,000 to 1,350 to try harder to match massive demand, but it looks like this – a track-only version of the GT – will be counted in that number. If that’s the case, it takes the number of ‘regular’ GTs down to 1,305 as Ford say they’re making just 45 of these unregulated track-day GTs available, each costing just under £1 million.
Ford has given the GT’s 3.5 litre V6 Ecoboost engine a bit of a makeover and it now delivers 700bhp, but most of the work has gone on to make it stickier and slicker.
A new spoiler and diffuser significantly increases downforce, and a bigger front splitter and dive planes balances the act, with Ford claiming an impressive 400 per cent increase.
Gone is the GT’s hydraulically adjustable suspension and in come Multimatic Performance Dampers (saving a chunky 150kg) and a lowered ride height.
Wheels are 19″ forged aluminium with Michelin Pilot Sport GT track tyres, but the brakes are still the GT’s standard ceramic discs, more than up to the job say Ford.
There’s also a roof air intake for added cooling and inside gets a Sparco driver’s seat, six-point harness, data logging and reversing camera.
If you want to see the new track-only Ford GT you’ll need to dash off to Goodwood this weekend where you’ll see it flying up the Hillcimb.
