Ford made a £181 million PROFIT in UK & Europe in 2015
Ford returned to profit in the UK and Europe in 2015, posting profits of £181 million as it reported its best ever global net income of $7.4bn.
Despite Ford’s domination of the UK best selling car charts with the Fiesta and Focus, it’s struggled to make any money in the UK and Europe in the last five years, but that all changed in 2015 with profits of £181 million for Europe as a whole, with sales of 1.53 million vehicles. That figure has been helped by a degree of recovery in the European car market and also by plant closures in Genk and the shutting of the Transit site in Southampton.
But it’s the rest of the world – and in particular the USA – that has contributed the real meat to Ford’s 2015 success, with rising demand for SUVs and Pickups – driven by falling oil prices – seeing Ford post revenues of $150 billion for 2015, with net income of $7.4 billion.
Ford’s bottom line has been helped by a 6.8 per cent margin – its biggest since the 1990s – and Ford expect the good times to roll on in 2016, expecting sales and profits to be at least as good as 2015.
However, what will happen for Ford in 2016 is in the lap of the gods to a great degree, with Europe in turmoil thanks to the migrant crisis and lingering doubts about the viability of the Euro, and the price of oil anyone’s guess in the coming year.
But it’s certainly good to see Ford back in the black this side of the Pond.
