Honda Civic Type R PICK UP
A Honda Civic Type R pickup truck has been revealed at this week’s SMMT Test Day, modified and developed by Synchro Motorsport at Honda’s Swindon Plant.
Pick-ups are a big deal for car makers thanks to their tax benefits for business users, and if you want a properly quick pick-up this could be the car for you – the Honda Civic Type R Puck-Up.Revealed at this weeks SMMT Test Day, the Civic Type R pickup has been built by a specialist team from the Product Engineering department at Honda in Swindon – codenamed ‘Project P’ – and based on the production Civic Type R to deliver what is probably one of the quickest pickups on UK roads.
Finished in Rallye Red, the team at Honda used a pre-production Type R, and created a new back end from the B-Pillars with sweeping lines running down from the roof to the back, hiding an actual flat bed area where the back seats once were.
Honda say that despite the transformation in to a pick-up, this Civic Type R will hit 62mph in under 6.0 seconds on its way to 165mph.
Project leader Alyn James said:
We have a special projects division at the factory in Swindon and this project was a fantastic opportunity for the team to show just what their creative minds could do. The passion that our engineers have for Honda is shown in our latest creation and we are even considering taking it to the Nurburgring to see if we can take the record for the fastest front wheel drive pickup truck!
Sadly, Honda has no plans to put the Civic Type R Pick-Up in to production.
