Honda HR-V UP in price today – the rest of the Honda range in January

Honda has revealed it is putting prices up across its range, with the Honda HR-V up in price from today by 4.4 per cent and the rest of the range rising in January 2016.

Just about every retailer and his dog is busy cutting prices to make sales at the moment, but not Honda – they’ve announced price increases across the board, and the first happens today (1 December).

Despite only going on sale in the UK a few months ago, the Honda HR-V – Honda’s quite appealing compact SUV – is going up in price by a hefty 4.4 per cent which, especially when you consider the UK has more or less no inflation at the moment and the HR-V’s prices were only set a few months ago – does seem hard to justify.

Elsewhere in the Honda range, price increases come in to effect on 4 January 2016 and do seem much easier to justify.

The Honda Jazz hasn’t been increased in price since January last year and will rise by 2.3 per cent on average, the CR-V went up in price earlier this year and rises again by 1.9 per cent, and the Civic – hatchback and Tourer – will have a jump of 2.3 per cent.

Philip Crossman, Honda’s UK MD, was keen to justify the price increases. He said:

In the wider context we must ensure industry price competitiveness.  To achieve this we have undertaken a comprehensive review of our product pricing over the last three years to understand where Honda sits in comparison to our main competitors and have determined that we need to raise prices accordingly.

It’s perfectly reasonable for Honda to increase their prices, and on the whole they don’t seem unreasonable, although the excuse for putting up the price of the recently launched HR-V seems to be because competition lets them get away with it.
