The Infiniti QX30 Compact SUV – Infiniti’s first foray in to the compact SUV market – is revealed ahead of a debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
The Infiniti QX30 Compact SUV has been teased by Infiniti ahead of a debut in Geneva, and now it’s here it does look very promising.
Compact SUVs from ‘Premium’ car makers can look a bit bland – think Mercedes GLA, BMW X1 or Audi Q3 – but Infiniti has majored on design with the QX30, a design that may be polarizing – although we think it looks very good – but one that makes the QX30 stand out.
That stand-out look may be a bit toned-down when a production version of the QX30 arrives for 2016, but the family nose, metal skid plates, carbon fibre cladding, coupe roofline, aluminium-trimmed front bumper and big wheels will, we hope, survive in to production.
Inside – described by Infiniti as warm and inviting – features slimmed-down brown leather seats with blue highlights, ambient lighting and lots of technology, including Infiniti InTouch.
Under the skin we’ll see at least a 2.0 litre petrol and 2.1 litre diesel – both from Mercedes – as well as the Mercedes MFA platform (which underpins the Q30 and the Mercedes A Class) and a Haldex four-wheel-drive option.
Roland Krueger, Infiniti President and CEO, said:
QX30 Concept foreshadows an entry in the premium compact segment that provides a stylish alternative to the existing offer in this segment.
The vehicle embodies our conviction to give customers the freedom to go wherever they want, whenever they want – in a style that turns heads and makes a statement, in a way that expresses their individualized character.
The Infiniti QX30 debuts at Geneva this week, and as long as Infiniti remains faithful to the concept’s design we can see it being a big hit when a production version arrives in 2016.
