Jaguar I-Pace gets a bit more range and tech improvements – but it’ll mean a visit to a Jaguar dealer

The Jaguar I-Pace is getting a software update adding a bit more range, better regenerative braking and more. But it’ll mean a visit to a Jaguar dealer.

It’s just a week since Jaguar announced SOTA (software-over-the-air) updates are now standard across its range, although existing compatible models will need a visit to a Jaguar dealer to get the functionality added. And that includes the electric Jaguar I-Pace.

So the announcement that Jaguar has readied a software update to improve the electric I-Pace is good news, but it will mean a visit to a Jaguar dealer to get it uploaded, although the software in the I-Pace will be updated to allow SOTA updates in future. 

The updates for the I-Pace are partly down to Jaguar’s experience in the I-Pace e-Trophy series, as well as data from 500 million miles or real world trips logged by Jaguar, and add improvements to range, regenerative braking, all-wheel drive, battery capacity, temperature control and more.

Jaguar say the changes to the all-wheel drive system will deliver greater efficiency in ECO mode, refined temperature control will enhance aerodynamic performance, battery updates will allow the battery to run properly at lower a lower state of charge, regenerative braking will be more efficient, range calculation more accurate and the I-Pace will also get up to 12 miles additional range as a result of the updates (although the official figures don’t change).

It might be a bit inconvenient to go to a Jaguar dealer to get the updates installed, but it is free of charge and future updates will then be possible using SOTA.
