Jaguar Land Rover is now delivering SOTA (software-over-the-air) updates for all its new models, and free upgrades for compatible existing models.
We’re all very used to the software on our smartphones updating periodically as improvements are made, but, for many car makers, any required updates have meant a visit to a dealer – and sometimes a cost – to get the latest software running.
But things are improving as car makers start to realise there’s no sense in dragging cars in to dealers to update software, and Jaguar Land Rover now has Software-over-the-air (SOTA) capability on every new Jaguar and Land Rover model, including the latest Touch Pro and Touc Pro Duo infotainment systems which now have the Smartphone Pack with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
That’s fine and dandy for buyers of new Jaguar and Land Rover models, but what about those who already own a Jaguar or Land Rover that doesn’t have SOTA capability of the Smartphone Pack?
Helpfully, JLR is now offering SOTA capability, and Touch Pro and Touch Pro infotainment upgrades as a complimentary upgrade for all compatible cars from the 2016 model year – almost half a million of them.
Nick Rogers, JLR Product Engineering Director, said:
Of course, we want our existing customers to benefit from the latest connected features as well, which is why we are offering them a complimentary upgrade to enable this capability on their vehicles too, together with the latest updates for their Touch Pro and Touch Pro Duo infotainment systems.
At Jaguar Land Rover, our vision is to create experiences people love for life, putting our customers at the heart of everything we do. This programme is just one way in which we are making that commitment clear.
Grabbing the update for existing cars will mean new software making operation quicker and easier and means owners will now be able to quickly and easily download future updates too via a micro SIM card.
The SOTA update capability applies to all models of the Jaguar XE, XF, XJ, E-PACE, F-PACE, I-PACE and F-TYPE; Land Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport; Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar and Evoque from the 2016 model year.
