JLR owners Tata deliver mid-engined TaMo RaceMo
Jaguar Land Rover owners Tata has brought the TaMo RaceMo mid-engined sports car to the Geneva Motor Show complete with 1.2 litre 3-cylinder engine.
Last month we reported that Tata, owners of Jaguar Land Rover, were heading in a new direction with a new sub-brand – TaMo – and planning a debut for their first car at Geneva.Well, Geneva’s here and so is the TaMo RaceMo (not the Futuro as we expected).
The awful management speak TaMo used when they first teased the TaMo car is still going on, but of we ignore the rubbish and made-up buzzwords, there’s an interesting little sports car lurking beneath.
The RaceMo is a two-door, two-seat mid-engined coupe, and it’s small. Smaller than an MX-5 small. So it’ 1.2 litre three-cylinder engine should give lively performance, especially as it comes with an impressive 187bhp.
Sitting a bit higher than you’d expect a small sports car to sit – no doubt something to do with its target market’s less than brilliant roads (that’s India, not the UK), the RaceMo nevertheless comes with double wishbones all round which should help it go round corners.
The RaceMo even comes with butterfly doors, an automated manual gearbox, big flappy paddles and a decent interior. It’s not cutting edge, but it does look like a mini supercar. Well, perhaps an upmarket mini supercar kit car.
There are no plans to make the RaceMo a major production model; it’s more a taster of what could come from Tamo. Despite that, TaMo will be building 200 units, and you’ll be able to download it for free for Forza Horizon 3.
