Kia Ceed Crossover set to join the Ceed range.
A new Kia Ceed Crossover will join the current Ceed lineup of Hatch, Sportswagon and Proceed later this year as Kia moves the Ceed in to trendy crossover territory.
To no one’s great surprise Kia has confirmed that the new Ceed will be getting a new model later this year. And again, to no one’s surprise, it’ll be a higher-riding crossover Ceed.Previewed with a single design sketch (above) and without a name for now (just Ceed CUV), it will sit between the Stonic and Sporatage, assuming we’re to consider it an SUV of sorts.
It’s a bit hard to judge anything from a sketch, but it’s likely the Ceed Crossover will be a high-riding take on the Ceed Hatch, with jacked-up suspension, new bumpers and new alloys, although under the skin it’s likely to be much the same as the Hatch.
That will probably mean no four-wheel drive option, but it’s certain there will a plug-in hybrid version of the Crossover, probably borrowed from the Niro and delivering around 140bhp and the usual daft official economy figures.
Elsewhere, engine options will range from the 1.0 litre T-GDi petrol with 118bhp up to the 1.6 T-GDi with 200bhp, and probably a diesel option or two, and trim options mirroring the hatch.
Gregory Guillaume, Kia’s European Design VP, said:
There’s another style, another type of vehicle, that we feel very strongly deserves to be a new member of the Ceed family. It will the play the role that’s needed to make the Ceed range stronger and even more exciting, more appealing, to European consumers. The design will be nothing like you’ve seen in the Ceed family so far. This will be the next big surprise from Kia.
Expect the Kia Ceed Crossover to be named and revealed soon.
