Koenigsegg Agera R: Geneva bound

Koenigsegg are taking a more powerful Agera to Geneva. The Koenigsegg Agera R offers 1150bhp and will cost €980,000.

This time last year – give or take a week or two – we heard a whisper that Koenigsegg had something new planned for Geneva. A day or two of furtling around and we were able to report a week later that Koenigesegg were indeed taking something new to Geneva – the Koenigsegg Agera.

The Agera duly turned up at Geneva in March and the last year has seen a number of orders for Ageras, although so far – to the best of our knowledge – just two Ageras have been delivered. And one of those has been turned in to something special.

Teamspeed reported last week that the Oman Royal family had taken delivery of a Koenigsegg Agera R. Which as far as we knew didn’t exist. So – one year on from the original Agera – we were back to furtling through our contact book. And it turns out that the Agera R that’s shown up in Oman is a one-off specially produced by Koenigsegg for the Oman Royal family.

But the conversion of one of only two Ageras in the wild in to the Agera R has pleased Christian von Koenigsegg so much that it’s about to become a regular model, and is heading for the Geneva Motor Show in March. Speculation has surrounded the power of the Agera R, and we can confirm that it can produce 1115bhp when fuelled with bio-ethanol. That’s more power than the CCXR Edition.

It also seems that – although not exactly a bargain basement offering – the Koenigsegg Agera R is ‘sensibly’ priced. The regular Agera lists at €850,000 and the Agera R is coming in at €130k more – that’s €980,000. Which nicely undercuts any current offerings from Bugatti or Pagani.
