Ahead of a debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of the month, the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster has been revealed.
We reported last week that the Lamborghini faithful would be getting their first look at the new Aventador Roadster this weekend ahead of a debut at the L.A Auto Show later this month. And with that private reveal out of the way the rest of us mere mortals get to see the new Lamborghini LP700-4 Roadster.
Just as expected, the Aventador Roadster addresses the biggest failing of the Murcielago Roadster – its origami tent for a roof – by utilising a two-piece carbon fibre roof that weighs in at just 6kg and can be popped out in seconds to stow in the front luggage compartment.
That means the Aventador Roadster can do something the Murcielago couldn’t – travel at more than 100mph without the roof blowing off. But the Aventador Roadster also gets a powered rear window for a choice of buffeting and noise levels and a front wind deflector that sits on top of the windscreen to almost eliminate buffeting if you choose.
Power comes from the same V12 6.5 litre as the tin-top Aventador which means 2017mph and a 0-62mph of just 3.0 seconds with cylinder deactivation and stop-start to help trim the emissions. The Aventador Roadster also gets the same 7-speed auto ‘box as the coupe.
Lamborghini has redesigned the rear pillars to give greater strength with the roof off and to offer more rollover protection, changed the design of the engine cover and given the doors chamfered edges to seamlessly fit with the new roof.
Other changes for the Roadster include new 20″ and 21″£ alloys, a two-tone paint finish and some new paint colours.
We don’t have a UK price for the Aventador Roadster, but Lamborghini say it will cost €300k plus tax, so think a price just the right side of £300k in the UK once the vat is added.
The new Lamborghini Aventador Roadster will arrive in the UK in summer 2013.
