The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento revealed in Paris

Lamborghini has released information on their ultra light, carbon fibre supercar – the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

Well, we played the game with Lamborghini’s Paris Photo tease. We ran them all, even though we got bored. But when we got wind yesterday that the tease was for the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento we almost forgave Lamborghini for driving us nuts with a daft and boring tease. Almost.

But let’s forget the tease. What about the Sesto Elemento (Sixth Element – so named because carbon is the sixth element in the periodic table)? Well, the info we have – and the pictures, for that matter – are still not officially from Lamborghini. But we know the info is right, and it’s the same info we got yesterday.

The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is a lightweight, carbon fibre wonder weighing in at just 999kgs. Which in old money is 2200lbs. Which is about the weight of the average retired Floridian. However, unlike the average retired Floridian, the Sesto Elemento is rather swift.

A 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds is Veyron SuperSports fast. Almost nothing is likely to come close to its performance. It sports the same 5.2 litre lump found in the LP 570-4 Superleggera. It is almost completely made of carbon fibre.

The carbon monocoque of the Sesto elemento is just the start. The entire front frame, the exterior panels and crash boxes are also made from CFRP.

The Sesto Elemento’s major suspension components and the rims are made from carbon fiber. The tailpipes are made from Pyrosic, which is an advanced glass-ceramic matrix composite, able to reach and stand very high temperatures up to 900° celsius. Even the propeller shaft is made of CFRP.

All of which is quite astonishing. It looks even more like a stealth car than the Reventon did, and demonstrates superbly what a difference real weight shedding makes to performance.
