Lexus GS F arrives with 467bhp ahead of Detroit debut
The tease we had for a new Lexus GS F last month could actually have been for a four-door sibling for the RC F – a new IS F – but we called it right, and Lexus has this afternoon revealed the new GS F ahead of a debut at the Detroit Auto Show.
Looking suitably butch – without looking cheap – the Lexus GS F gets the usual go faster adornments – big alloys, aerodynamic body kit, go-faster blue paint job, meaty exhaust – for a performance Lexus, and does offer the promise of an alternative to the German super-saloons like the BMW M5 and Mercedes E 63 AMG.
But although it may be an alternative, it does come up a bit short on grunt.
The naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8 under the bonnet of the GS F has to make do with 467bhp and 389lb/ft of torque (whilst the Germans are well on their way to 600bhp with the M5 and E63), but despite a bit of a power shortage it should still be good for 0-62mph in around 4.5 seconds (Lexus aren’t saying yet) and will come with stiffer suspension, and eight-speed auto with manual shifting and Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) with three modes.
This GS F is US spec, but it seems likely a European GS F will arrive at Geneva in the spring and go on sale later in 2015, followed in 2016 by further ‘F’ models from Lexus including a new IS F and a convertible RC F, as Lexus push forward with their relatively newly-found joy in making fast and able cars.
