Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept previews a new range-topping Lexus SUV
The Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept has been revealed at the Detroit Motor Show, previewing a new range-topping Crossover with a variety of powertrains.
The Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept has been teased before its reveal today as a new range-topping SUV / Crossover concept, and that’s exactly what it is.But we’re actually none the wiser about whether this LF-1 Limitless is a new addition to the Lexus SUV range or a replacement for the Lexus LX. Or, presuming it makes production, if it will make it to the UK.
It’s hard to decide if the new look for the LF-1 is a statement of intent or a designers flight of fancy, but we’d come down on the side of future intent as Lexus has become far more ambitious in its designs of late.
The front end gets an even more extreme take on the Lexus spindle Grille than we’ve seen before, almost Crossover proportions for the angular yet flowing coupe bodywork, rather than a real SUV look, and looks set to take on cars like the Audi Q8.
Inside it’s all very future modern Lexus, with controls mounted around the steering wheel, an intelligent Infotainment system, multi screens and lots of room. There’s even Level 5 autonomous driving promised.
Designed at the CALTY Design Centre in California, Kevin Hunter, its Design Director, said:
This is our vision for a new kind of flagship vehicle that embraces crossover capability without giving up the performance and luxury delivered by today’s top saloons.
The Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept incorporates imaginative technology while creating a strong emotional connection by improving the human experience for driver and passengers
Surprisingly, the LF-1 is rear-wheel drive, and Lexus are saying its powertrain could be any shade the buyer wants (apart from diesel), so it could be a hydrogen fuel cell, hybrid, plug-in hybrid or petrol.
We’ll leave you to decide the most likely.
