McLaren now extends its warranty availability to 12 years – just like Ferrari
McLaren has increased the coverage of its car warranty, allowing McLaren owners to extend their car’s warranty for up to 12 years from new.
It wouldn’t take a petrolhead to work out that McLaren’s offerings are probably more aligned – and more targeted at – Ferrari’s range than any other.Yes, there’s an agenda to take on all supercar makers, with the more recent Sports Series cars aimed at cars like the high-end Porsche 911 or Audi R8. But it’s Ferrari that’s the real target.
So with McLaren pitching itself as a British Ferrari with an obsession for engineering and perfection, it’s a bit surprising it’s taken the Woking boys so long to catch up with Ferrari’s warranty options.
More than two years ago Ferrari started offering Ferrari owners the option of extending their car’s warranty for a full 12 years from new, as well as a four year manufacturers warranty and seven years of servicing.
McLaren has now decided they need to offer something similar, so you will now be able to extend the warranty of your McLaren up to 12 years and 100,000 miles.
You won’t be covered for wear and tear and servicing, so you’ll still rack up normal McLaren servicing costs (which you won’t with Ferrari in the first seven years), but you will be immune from anything really nasty – and cripplingly expensive – that hits you.
McLaren’s Aftersales Director, Carl Whipp, said:
Owners want the reassurance that their car will still be looked after to the same standards with which it was built. And they want to continue to enjoy their McLaren without worry. Sometimes daily. It’s for them that we launched the Extended Warranty and now with this further enhancement to the coverage period, it will continue to give complete peace of mind … right up to the car’s 12th birthday.
