The McLaren P1 GTR complete with James Hunt livery
There will be two McLaren GTRs at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with one a tribute to James Hunt and the other a Lanzante heading up the hillclimb.
We already know that this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will be celebrating the career of James Hunt, with all the important cars from his career brought together 40 year on from when Hunt took the 1976 driver’s title in a battle with Niki Lauda. But it won’t just be Hunt’s F1 cars on show, as Goodwood has James’ Austin A35 too, and McLaren are adding to that with a very special P1 GTR.
The special McLaren P1 GTR, which will be taking part in the Supercar Run, comes complete with a livery inspired by Hunt’s Wellington colours and riven by Bruno Senna (and others).
But the Hunt-liveried P1 GTR isn’t the only GTR taking part, with a road-legal version from Lanzante on show and in action throughout the Goodwood weekend.
The Lanzante is a road-legal version of the track-only P1 GTR, and is close as you’ll come to an official McLaren P1 GTR for the road (Lanzante history with McLaren goes back to running a semi-works F1 GTR at Le Mans, and they’re proper F1 specialists still). Which means it can actually tackle the hillclimb and set an official time.
In addition to the P1 GTRs, McLaren will also have all their current range of road cars on show at Goodwood, as well as lots of cars stretching back more than 50 years.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from 23-26 June 2016.
