McLaren P1 GTR ready to roll – debuts Geneva 2015 (+video)

The McLaren P1 GTR – McLaren’s track monster version of the road-going P1 – will debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in its finished version.

The McLaren P1 is already an incredible car – one of the three hypercars that have stunned the car world recently along with LaFerrari and Porsche 918 – with the sort of power and performance that are almost unimaginable.

But the McLaren P1 – just like the Ferrari and Porsche – are road cars, and road cars have certain legislative and practical considerations that limit what they can do.

But take away the limitations of making a car road legal and you get the McLaren P1 GTR, McLaren’s ultimate iteration of the P1 designed for track use only by a very select – and small – bunch of owners.

Revealed at Pebble Beach in the summer, the P1 GTR loses weight and gains power, with 986bhp on tap and a power to weight ratio improved by ten per cent, widened track, racing slicks and a new aerodynamic pack that includes a thumping great rear wing.

But the only way you’ll get to play is by already owning a McLaren P1 and having pockets deep enough to shell out up to £3 million (which is probably a given if you already have the P1).

For your investment you’ll be part of the McLaren P1 GTR Driver Programme which gives you your own personal driving coach and engineer, access to Woking and McLaren’s driving simulator and at least six F1 track days a year.

For the rest of us mere mortals, the closest we’ll get to the McLaren P1 GTR is its public debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March.
