AMG Speedway South Korea
The first racetrack in the world with AMG branding is opened by Mercedes in Gangnam, Seoul, as AMG caters for an ever-growing demand for AMG in South Korea.
If you had to guess where Mercedes would open the world’s first AMG Speedway racetrack, you’d probably expect it to be somewhere scenic in Germany. But it’s not. In fact, the first AMG Speedway is in Gangnam, a trendy district of Seoul, South Korea.Mercedes hasn’t actually built a new Racetrack for AMG outings, but it has commandeered and branded the first racetrack in South Korea – which was opened in 1995 and extensively modified in 2011 to a Hermann Tilke design – and is 2.7 miles long with 17 turns.
The circuit hasn’t just had a truck-load of AMG gubbins shipped-in and bolted down to brand the existing track, but Mercedes has installed stuff like an AMG Lounge and separate pit lane and paddock area, and it will allow customers to experience AMG models, host model launches and cater for dealer training.
Tobias Moer, AMG boss, said:
The AMG Speedway is the world’s first racetrack bearing our name. This underlines the importance of South Korea as one of our main markets. The AMG Speedway is thus not only an important step in the further dynamic development of AMG in South Korea. It also stands for the strategic expansion of our face-to-face communication. Customers and fans can experience the essence of our brand here first hand.
AMG enjoyed double digit growth in South Korea in 2017, and the new AMG Speedway should help them beat that in 2018.
