Mercedes teases the 2020 Mercedes GLA
The new Mercedes GLA – the ‘Crossover’ take on the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class – will be revealed at an event on 11 December 2019 and go on sale in 2020.
It’s getting on for two years since the new Mercedes A Class was revealed, since when Mercedes has been busy delivering variants like the A-Class saloon and CLA.We’ve also had the debut of the new Mercedes GLB as a chunky compact SUV – a sort of mini G-Wagen – and now we’re about to get the SUV that sits below the GLB – or, to be more accurate, the ‘Crossover – with the arrival of the new Mercedes GLA confirmed for 11 December.
The new GLA will remain the entry-level point for Mercedes SUVs, and in terms of how it looks it’s not going to be too far removed from the current GLA, and looking like an A-Class after it’s been to the gym and gained some height.
Under the skin the new GLA will sit on the same MFA2 platform as the regular A-Class models, which will mean it grows a bit, especially in the wheelbase for more room inside.
The oily bits are likely to be much the same as the A-Class too, from an entry-level 114bhp diesel all the way up to a 400bhp Mercedes-AMG variant at the top of the GLA tree, with an interior taken from the A-Class and featuring Mercedes’ latest MBUX architecture and safety stuff including an extended Driver Assistance Package.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLA will debut on 11 December 2019.
