It seems as if MINI are ready to launch the MINI Cooper S Diesel at the Paris Motor Show. Expect around 140bhp and 220lb/ft of torque.
The idea of a MINI Cooper S Diesel first crossed our radar late in 2009. We managed to grab photos of what seemed to be a hot diesel MINI, and we felt sure we were soon to see a quicker version of the oil burning MINI.
But since then – ten months ago – we’ve not really heard much. Yes, there’s been the usual rumblings we get on the prospects of every potential car there could be – but nothing too concrete.
But now we’re hearing that the MINI Cooper S Diesel is ready to rock and roll and will be at the Paris Motor Show in just over a month. Which instantly gives MINI a whole new list of models by the time they put the hot oil burner in to the MINI Countryman and the MINI Coupe and the MINI Clubman and the MINI Roadster and…
So how much more poke is the Cooper S Diesel going to get? We were hearing around 150bhp last year when we did some digging, which turns out not to be too far off the mark. We now hear that the Cooper S Diesel will get a 1.6 litre version of BMW’s N47 oil burner which should offer up over 140bhp and 220lb/ft of torque.
That will make the Cooper S Diesel a lot livelier than the Cooper Diesel, but not so much so it frightens BMW’s own horses.
Nothing official yet, but watch this space.
