MINI Countryman gets its own bespoke AirTop Roof Tent
Autohome has produced an AirTop Roof Tent for the MINI Countryman – in conjunction with MINI – for adventurers prone to spontaneous adventures in their MINI.
MINI has a bit of a history with ‘Camping Solutions’ for their owners, but they’ve not always been serious intentions.Back in 2012, MINI used the idea of a ‘Swindon Roof Top Tent’ (and a Cowley Caravan) as an April Fool prank to torment motoring journos, and it worked enough for a few to take it seriously.
But it was all just a big Teutonic joke, or at least it was until MINI decided it was rather a good idea as they sought to deliver more and more ‘Specials’ for MINI’s buyers.
The daft April Fool turned in to the MINI Clubman Camper, Countryman All4 Camp and Cowley Caravan just a year later, when we thought we might have missed the joke. But it was entirely serious.
Now, MINI are at it again with a way to turn your MINI Countryman in to a sort of MINi Camper by bolting a tent in a box to the roof.
In conjunction with Autohome, they’ve developed the Countryman AirTop Roof Tent, a tent in a box that’s bolted to the roof of the Countryman using the roof rails.
Available in black or white, the AirTop tent can be raised from its box by four gas pressure springs to deliver a mattress, two doors, two windows, mosquito nets and even a ladder to clamber up.
MINI say it’s designed for “spontaneous travellers and adventurers”. If that’s you, you can buy your MINI Countryman AirTop tent at Autohome’ site.
Good Lord.
