The new Subaru Impreza is teased ahead of a New York debut
A new Subaru Impreza is being teased by Subaru ahead of a debut at the New York Motor Show, complete with new underpinnings and Subaru’s new design.
There was a time when the Subaru Impreza was a truly astonishing car, but in recent years it’s been completely overshadowed by the competition, particularly the VW Golf R, and now the new Ford Focus RS.But perhaps the new Subaru Impreza will put Subaru back on top with a new platform and a new design language (evolved design language is probably more accurate)?
That’s something we will start to find out at the New York Motor Show later this month, as Subaru confirm the arrival of a new Impreza with this first teaser photo (above).
From what we can see, the new Impreza looks to be a production take on the Impreza Concept we saw at last year’s Los Angeles Motor Show, which was a good-looking (always a good place to start) saloon with a coupe-like roofline and accentuated wheel arches.
But although good looks are a huge plus, the new Impreza is going to have to be very good underneath to compete with the Golf R and Focus RS.
But with a new Subaru platform underpinning it, four wheel-drive and a flat four engine, there’s every chance the Impreza will impress. At least as long as the quality is there too, particularly on the inside.
We’ll learn more in the coming weeks as the New York Motor Show nears.
