The Subaru Impreza Saloon Concept has been unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show with a new look previewing the next generation Impreza due in 2016.
The Subaru Impreza Saloon Concept (or, to be entirely correct, the Subaru Impreza Sedan Concept as this is an American Motor Show) has been revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show, previewing a new design direction for Subaru and the next generation Impreza.
Most strikingly, the Impreza Concept is bordering on the good-looking, with a contemporary coupe-like profile, good-looking lights, nice contours and a stance that looks purposeful. It’s also painted in an appealing shade of Ruby red Metallic.
What’s going to power the new Impreza is probably anyone’s guess, but hopefully it will live up to its looks with something a bit more interesting than the 1.6 litre petrol engine in the current car – and its underwhelming 112bhp – although it seems likely Subaru will stick with the equally unappealing CVT gearbox.
In terms of looks alone, the new Impreza, when it arrives in 2016, is likely to have a toned-down take on this concept, but if the overall shape remains intact it will offer competition to cars like the Ford Focus and VW Golf, but to do that it will have to offer some decent engine choices, even if it is likely to have a 4WD option as a bit of a USP.
