The new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio won’t just be quick to 62mph – just 3.9 seconds – it appears it can also power on to a top speed of 200mph.
We won’t know for sure how good the new Alfa Romeo Giulia is until it arrives, but everything we see and hear makes us more interested in Alfa’s new BMW M3 challenger.Almost a given for an appealing Alfa are the looks – and the Giulia scores highly on that front – and a rear-wheel-drive setup, but the performance potential of the Ferrari developed 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet adds real icing to the Giulia cake.
We already know – because Alfa told us – that the range-topping Quadrifoglio can hit 62mph in a scant 3.9 seconds, but now it seems it can power on from there to top out at 200mph.
Italian car site al Volante just happened to find themselves at the Nurburgring at the same time as the test team for the new Giulia, and were able to witness the new Alfa’s performance. But a serendipitous restaurant meal saw the chaps from al Volante seated at the next table to the Alfa test team, where they pricked up their ears and elicited the tasty morsel that the Giulia Quadrifoglio hit 200mph in testing at the Nardo test circuit.
Admittedly, cars like the M3 and AMG C63 are limited to 155mph, but a 0-62mph of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 200mph will count for a lot when the Giulia hits the market And even if Alfa limit the top speed for the production version, buyers will still know what it can do when let free.
