The new Alfa Romeo Giulia is revealed as Alfa aims to take on cars like the new Jaguar XE and BMW 3-Series with their new range-topping car.
Alfa’s are usually more appealing to play with than to own, but the new Alfa Romeo Giulia could change that, and it could well offer an appealing alternative to cars like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class and the new Jaguar XE.
So far, Alfa has only revealed that the range-topping Giulia will come with a Ferrari-developed 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6, which delivers a mighty 503bhp and can get to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds, and although RWD is standard it looks like 4WD will be an option.
With a claimed 50/50 weight distribution, short overhangs, a new suspensions setup featuring multi-link at the back and a new double wishbone at the front, torque vectoring and an active splitter for better downforce, the new Giulia promises terrific driving dynamics.
Cosmetically, certainly in the range -topping Giulia Quadrifoglio – there’s a properly aggressive Alfa nose with mesh grill, bonnet vents, slim headlights, side skirts, rear diffuser, bootlid spoiler and four exhaust tailpipes. It looks properly convincing.
So far Alfa hasn’t revealed interior photos, but they say it is “…fuss free and centred around the driver”, with an F1 inspired steering wheel, carbon fibre, real wood and is distinctly ‘Premium’
Other engines likely to make their way in to the Giulia include a new take on the 1750 TBi engine already found in the Alfa 4C as well as other options including – if Alfa has a prayer of any sort of volume – a diesel or two.
It all looks very promising.
