New Kia Sportage previewed in design sketches ahead of Frankfurt debut

Kia has released design sketches of the new Kia Sportage ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, previewing a new, more upmarket Sportage.

Kia will be debuting the fourth generation of the Sportage SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, ahead of which it’s released design sketches to give us an idea of what to expect.

As with all design sketches, these need to be taken with a pinch of salt; there is no way the real Sportge will come with such a dynamic profile and oversize wheels as these design sketches, but they do give us some ideas of the production car.

Kia are keen we see the new Sportage as bold and progressive and that we know it’s moving upmarket to take on cars like the Honda CR-V, and it seems clear the new Sportage will come with a new statement ‘Tiger Nose’ grill, new look bumpers and a more aggressive stance.

Inside appears to be more upmarket – and more understated – with the company declaring it to have “simple, modern style with rich material quality for Kia’s most refined, highest-quality cabin to date”. Which sets the bar quite high.

The interior will undoubtedly have a new centre console, a less cluttered design and lots of upmarket, soft-touch materials.

Under the bonnet, it seems likely the new Sportage will get tweaked versions of the current Sportage engines, and the option of FWD or 4WD.
