The 2017 Mercedes E-Class Estate has been revealed, but the UK will get a choice of just two diesel engines plus the AMG E43 4MATIC E-Class.
Mercedes teased the arrival of the 2017 E-Class Estate a couple of days ago, and now it’s been revealed before going on sale in the UK in July.Just as you’d expect, the new E-Class Estate is the new E-Class from the front to the back doors, and a larger version of the C-Class Estate from the back doors to the tailgate.
That styling choice does make the new E-Class Estate a bit more stylish than its boxy predecessor, but it also cuts boot space by a bit (by 25 litres with the back seats up and by 130 litre with them down) but it still offers more space than the Audi S6 Avant or BMW 5 Series Touring.
But despite the more stylish approach to an E-Class Estate, practicality is still a big part, with a powered cargo blind making access easier, ‘Easy Pack’ tailgate with one-touch opening, remote opening with Keyless Plus, kick-to-open and 1100mm of width to get even bulky stuff in.
The new E-Class also gets self-levelling rear air suspension which can cope with a payload of 745kg and a towing capacity of 2100kg (depending on model).
Engine choices, at least initially, are rather limited for the UK, with just the new 2.0 litre 194bhp diesel in the 220d and 258bhp 3.0 litre V6 diesel in the 350d, plus the AMG E43 4MATIC with 396bhp and 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds.
The new Mercedes E-Class Estate will go on sale in Mercedes’ UK dealers in July. Prices haven’t been revealed yet, but a starting price around £37k seems about right.
