It looks like Mercedes are continuing to re-name their models, with the next generation ML Class to be known as the Mercedes GLE when it arrives.

Car makers’ model ranges have grown massively in recent years and that, in a lot of cases, has left traditional model designations floundering to inform potential buyers.
Models like the CLA (a coupe from the A-Class range) and GLA (an SUV/Crossover from the A-Class range) and that looks set to be extended when the next Mercedes ML and ML Coupe arrive in 2015.
Instead of sticking with the long-used ML Class moniker, it looks like Mercedes are going to call the new ML the Mercedes GLE and the new MLC the Mercedes GLE Coupe (the GL denoting SUV/Crossover and the ‘E’ that it’s and E-Class size car).
Logically, we should therefore expect to see the next generation GL becoming the GLS and the new GLK becoming the GLC.
With the replacement for the ML due to arrive next year – complete with a coupe version to take on the BMW X6 – we shouldn’t have to wait too long for the new Mercedes GLE and GLE Coupe monikers to arrive officially.
