The John Cooper Works version of the new three-door MINI – the fastest production MINI ever – goes on sale in the UK and Europe from £23,050.
MINI revealed the most powerful production MINI to date – the 2015 John Cooper Works – at the Detroit Motor Show at the start of the year and is now on sale in the UK from £23,050 for the manual and £24,380 for the automatic. It may be a chunky price to pay for a MINI, any MINI, but in the JCW you do get a 228bhp 2.0 litre turbo good for a 0-62mph sprint in 6.3 seconds with the manual ‘box and 6.1 seconds with the auto.
Power and performance may be the whole point of the JCW, but MINi are still keen to be ‘Green’ too, so there’s an emphasis on that too with ‘MINIMALISM’ technologies on show like stop-start, gear shift indicator, energy recovery, reduced power usage by stuff like the coolant and fuel pump and electromechanical power steering.
It all adds up to official economy of 42.2mpg and emissions of 155g/km for the manual and an even more impressive 49.6mpg for the flappy paddle auto. Not that you’ll come close in the real world; if you do better than 30mpg you’re driving too slowly.
The MINI JCW starts life as a Cooper S – so it already hjas sport genes – but it also gets tweaked suspension and new Brembo brakes, 17″ JCW alloys, an Electronic Differential Lock Control and Performance Control as well as JCW bumpers, side sills and rear spoiler.
Inside there’s Dinamica JCW sports seats, JCW sills, steering wheel, gear lever, instruments and pedals.
The 2015 MINI JCW is now on sale in MINI’s UK dealers.
