New Opel Monza revealed – sort of – ahead of Frankfurt debut

A new Opel Monza Concept has been revealed this morning by Vauxhall/Opel showcasing future design and powertrain efficiency, ahead of a Frankfurt debut.

Last week we revealed that there will be a new Opel Monza at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September, although much of the detail was educated guesswork.

And even though Vauxhall has taken some off the wraps of the new Monza this morning, we’re still not really any the wiser.

Vauxhall/Opel are calling the Monza ‘The Future’ of the brand and say it represents a vision of the company’s future and will have a long term impact on production cars.

We get lots of flowery prose about the Monza demonstrating exceptional efficiency through its architecture and materials, aerodynamics and ‘ground-breaking powertrains’. The Monza also offers a quantum leap in the development of Infotainment systems.

That’s the window dressing, but the Monza itself – what we can see – does look good.

Vauxhall say the Monza is more athletic than muscular and shares similarities with the original Monza (also sold as the Vauxhall Royale) with its big glass area and low belt line.

What we don’t know yet is whether the Monza is a pure concept to point the way to Opel/Vauxhall’s future or whether it’s designed to go in to production, and nor what its underpinnings or powertrains are.

We hope it’s a new big coupe to sit above the Insignia, but we’ll no doubt find out in the coming months.
