New Porsche 935 gets a surprise reveal
There’s a new Porsche 935 on the block as Porsche reveals a limited run of a GT2 RS in Le Mans clothing as a Porsche 70th anniversary surprise.
Well, we didn’t see that coming – it’s a new Porsche 935.This tribute to the Porsche 935/78 ‘Moby Dick’ Le Mans car is based on the GT2 RS and was revealed at this year’s Rennsport Reunion at Laguna Seca and is, say Porsche, a Porsche 70th birthday gift to Porsche fans. Just 77 will be made.
Based on the 911 GT2 RS, the Porsche 935 gets an entirely new carbon body which echoes not just the 935/78, but other Porsche Le Mans cars.
The most standout feature is probably the huge ‘Longtail’ at the back – and the huge rear wing – which takes the 935 out to 4870mm. It’s also 2020mm wide with dish alloys and all presented in a modern interpretation of Porsche’s classic Martini livery.
Inside is ‘Le Mans’ too with influences from many Porsche Le Mans cars including wooden gear knob, carbon fibre, digital display, roll cage, six-point harness and a bucket seat. There’s even Air Con.
The oily bits are pretty much 911 GT2 RS, which means a 3.8 litre flat-six with 690bhp and seven-speed PDK ‘box, with six-pot aluminium monobloc racing calipers taking care of the stopping and PSM to help keep you on the straight and narrow.
Each of the 77 Porsche 935 cars will cost around £625k.
