As estate cars have become more stylish, more and more buyers have fallen in love with the idea of a ‘Wagon’ version as their family transport, as it now offers little downside and much more practicality.
The ST estate shares its wheelbase with the five-door Leon but gets a small – and reasonably stylish – shed bolted on the back to offer 587 litres of space with the seats down and a reasonably commodious 1470 litres with the seats down.
Engine options are likely to mimic those in the Leon hatch with a 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI in two power versions each, a 1.8 TSI for the FR, a couple of 1.6 litre diesels and a 2.0 litre diesel plus an ‘Eco’ star in the Ecomotive versions.
The new SEAT Leon ST Estate will debut at Frankfurt in September and go on sale in the UK early 2014, at prices expected to be not a huge amount more than the hatchback.
