New Toyota Aygo looks appealing: Geneva Motor Show

The new Toyota Aygo – Toyota’s city car sister to the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108 – has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.

The final part of the PSA/Toyota City Car trilogy has been revealed in Geneva with the arrival of the new Toyota Aygo – and it looks the most convincing of the three.

Toyota seem to have hit exactly the right note with the new Aygo’s look, which looks fun, funky and appealing with plenty of options to customise the already appealing looks.

The dramatic X-Theme going on at the front sets the Aygo apart from the C1 and 108 and the pagoda-style profile, rear spoiler and window graphic that extends in to the rear light clusters make the Aygo look bigger and bolder than it is.

Inside isn’t quite as funky but it looks an appealing and well bolted together place and, although the Aygo hasn’t really increased in size, the cabin is marginally bigger with a trapezoidal centre console, new instruments, wider armrests and a bit more luggage space.

The Aygo also gets Toyota’s new x-touch multimedia system with a 7″ touchscreen controlling audio, phone, connectivity and trip info, with SatNav and Apps an option and a rear view camera as standard.

But it’s the custom options that will mark the Aygo out, with the big bold ‘X’ on the front, rear bumper insert, front bumper and alloys all up to be specced and the instrument panel, centre console, air vents, gear shift knob and gear lever surround all open to change even by subsequent owners.

The only engine option will be the 1.0 lire 3-cylinder petrol with 68bhp and a choice of five-speed manual or Toyota’s x-shift automated manual and you’ll be able to have the Aygo as a tin top or with a folding canvas roof.

No prices for the new Toyota Aygo yet, but even if Toyota do go a bit ‘premium’ the new Aygo will still be the perfect choice for blatting round congested urban areas – far better than an EV.
