New Volkswagen Jetta teased ahead of Detroit debut
The seventh generation of the Volkswagen Jetta is teased ahead of a debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January, but will it come to the UK.
The Detroit Motor Show kicks off in January to start the round of major motor shows for 2018, and Volkswagen are teasing the arrival of the new VW Jetta – the seventh generation – ahead of its debut at the show.Arriving almost 40 years ago, the Jetta was the Golf with a boot to appeal to conservative buyers who didn’t want the new-fangled htachback Golf, and it’s gone on to be VW’s best-seller.
But the rise and rise of the hatchback, and then of the SUV / Crossover, has seen the Jetta fall out of favour in the UK, and a few months ago VW revealed they sell only a single Jetta a day in the UK and dropped the Jetta from its UK offerings.
But now there’s a new Jetta on the way – the seventh generation – and it’s being teased for a debut at the Detroit Motor Show, looking to be slicker and more upmarket with a hint of the Arteon about it.
Under the skin is the widely-used VW MQB Platform, and engines expected to include the new TSI EVO petrol lumps.
The question is, did VW drop the Jetta just because of slow sales in the UK (it was also dropped in Germany), or because they were planning a clean re-launch for the Jetta with this seventh generation?
