Peugeot 3008, 508 and 508 Estate get new HYBRID powertrains
The Peugeot 3008 SUV, 508 and 508 SW (Estate) are getting new Hybrid and Hybrid4 powertrain options for 2019 with up to 300bhp.
Although not going to be available until this time next year, Peugeot has revealed its new petrol electric hybrid powertrains heading for the 3008 and 508, complete with eight-speed automatic gearbox, as either a FWD Hybrid or 4WD Hybrid4.
The new hybrid powertrains are plug-in setups, with power stored in 300v lithium batteries with capacity ranging from 11.8kWh to 13.2kWh, enough say Peugeot for 30 miles of EV range, and rechargeable in less than two hours using a 6.6kW wall box (you can do the maths).
Peugeot say its i-Booster technology will conserve power as you brake or decelerate, and e-Save will let you save the batteries for later, perhaps for city driving or to silently arrive home late at night.
In the Peugeot 508 the hybrid setup pairs a 177bhp petrol engine with a 107bhp electric motor for a combined output of 221bhp, and in the 3008 SUV’s Hybrid4 setup there’s 197bhp from the petrol engine and 107bhp from each of the two electric motors – one at the front and one at the back – delivering a total output of 295bhp.
Laurent Blanchet, Peugeot’s Product Director, said:
The PEUGEOT Plug-in Hybrid engines are a unique opportunity for the brand to complement the powerful ranges of the PEUGEOT 3008 SUV and the all-new PEUGEOT 508 and 508 SW. They give our customers the opportunity to buy a powerful 3008 SUV AWD or a 508 (Fastback or SW) that is efficient and provides improved sensations.
Despite the announcement of the new Hybrid and Hybrid4 powertrains, they won’t be available to buy until autumn 2019.
