It’s almost commonplace for Ferraris and Lamborghinis to catch fire from time to time. But not Porsche.
It seems the problem is engine related, with the most likely cause being fluids leaking on to a hot exhaust and combusting, but Porsche aren’t issuing a recall as they haven’t yet pinned down the cause.
The isn’t an issue that will affect a huge number of owners – there are only 785 owners worldwide – but it will hurt Porsche’s image as a maker of the most reliable supercars money can buy.
Porsche are planning to contact the owners of the GT3s to arrange to collect, fix and return their cars as soon as fix has been found for the fire issue.
Despite a pair of GT3s going up in flames, no injuries or casualties resulted and Porsche’s ‘don’t drive’ advice should make sure that stays the case.
