Porsche Macan available with Porsche Drive in Atlanta
Porsche launches two new short-term rental options in the US, ranging from the Macan to the 911 and costing from around £200 for a four hour rental.
The car landscape is changing more rapidly than at any time, and as the prospect of autonomous cars looms large its impact on car makers is driving them to look for alternate solution to outright sales. We’ve already seen a number of car makers offering subscription models for their cars – like Volvo – which are more like a mobile phone contract than a normal contract hire, and some are moving in to short-term rentals so drivers can have what they want only when they need (or want) it.
Porsche is the latest to dip its toe in the short-term rentals space with two new options rolling out in the US, but with plans, no doubt, to make it more widely available if it works.
The first, Porsche Drive, offers a wide range of Porsche models – from the Macan to the 911 – from just a few hours to a week, with prices starting at $269 (£206) for four hours in a Macan, 718 Cayman or 718 Boxster all the way up to $2,909 (£2,230) for a week in a 911. But only in Atlanta – for now.
The second offering is through Turo – a peer-to-peer car sharing platform – and is available in San Francisco and Los Angeles, with specially picked and trained Porsche owners offering their cars on a short-term basis.
Looks like it would be a perfect fit for Porsche in London too.
