Porsche Mission E EV on Track with Mark Webber
Porsche has released video of the new Mission E electric car in the hands of former F1 driver Mark Webber driving the 592bhp Mission E on Porsche’s Weissach test track.
It feels like the Porsche Mission E is already with us, but it won’t actually be revealed in production guise until later this year or next, despite which order books for the Mission E are already open (although not in the UK) and Porsche has been busy telling us the Mission E is not just a new electric car, but a Porsche electric car which can deliver its power time after time. Unlike other high performance EVs.Not only that, but Porsche has been headlining another Mission E Variant to come, with the high-riding Mission E Cross Turismo Concept at Geneva putting in an appearance to underline Porsche is deadly serious about the whole electric car game.
Now, to show the Mission E is a real Porsche, Porsche has sent former F1 racer Mark Webber out on track in the Mission E at their Weissach test track test track to demonstrate the Mission E in action. Oddly, despite its electric powertrain, the Mission E in the video has exhaust tailpipes. Does that make it go faster?
It’s not an extensive workout, but Webber does seem truly impressed by the car, claiming it a game-changer and likening it at times to both the 918 and 919, and saying you don’t really notice the extra weight and that the agility was a nice surprise.
What Webber also declared in the clip is that the Mission E has 600hp. What we don’t know is if that’s the spec of the most potent Mission E heading in to production, or a lesser spec being used for testing. It has been mooted the Mission E will come in 670bhp, 536bhp and 402bhp outputs to offer a range of price and power points.
We’ll have to wait and see.
