The Porsche Panamera was only unveiled at Shanghai earlier this year, and it’s still two months before the first Porsche Panameras land in the UK. But it looks as if Porsche are already working on a new model – in addition to the Panamera Diesel and the Panamera Hybrid we’ve previously reported – The Porsche Panamera GTS.
The trade grapevine tells us that this will be a range-topping Panamera, sitting above the Panamera Turbo. It will drop the air suspension in favour of a traditional metal springs set-up and will possibly drop the 4WD to make the Panamera GTS much more driver-focused.
But we’re not sure. The GTS moniker has been used lately for the Cayenne, but not for a range-topper. It was used to create a middle-ranking, driver-focused model that sits between the Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. So the idea of a Porsche Panamera GTS being a range topper seems anomalous. By rights the range-topper should be the Panamera Turbo S – if Porsche were to follow recent nomenclature form.
But whatever it is, it would seem that Porsche are determined to create a hard-core Panamera. Which could be a prelude for a Porsche Panamera Coupe – aka the new Porsche 928.
Yes, please.
