Rimac C_Two Electric Supercar comes with 1,887bhp
As Porsche prepares to deliver the Porsche Taycan EV, it takes a judicious 10 per cent stake in Croatian electric supercar maker Rimac.
Porsche will deliver their first electric sports car next year with the newly named Porsche Taycan, and that will be followed by more electric Porsches including a Cross Turismo take on the Taycan. With big sums invested to give Porsche a real electric car future, Porsche has opened its wallet a little wider to take a 10 per cent stake in Croatian electric supercar maker Riamc, no doubt aiming to get helpful input from a company experienced in delivering real performance electric supercars.
That experience may only go back to 2009 when Mate Rimac founded his eponymous company, but within a couple of years he delivered the impressive Rimac Concept One with over 1,000bhp and 0-62mph in under 3.0 seconds, a car Richard Hammond managed to wreck last year in Switzerland.
The Rimac Concept Two – badged Rimac C_Two – arrived a few months ago to move the game on to 1,877bhp and a 0-62mph of under 2.0 seconds, with a top speed reckoned to be 285mph. It can also recharge to 80 per cent in 30 minutes (250kW rapid charging dependent).
Porsche’s Lutz Meschke said:
By developing the purely electric two-seaters super sports cars, like the ‘Concept One’ or ‘C Two’, as well as core vehicle systems, Rimac has impressively demonstrated its credentials in the field of electromobility.
We feel that Rimac’s ideas and approaches are extremely promising, which is why we hope to enter into close collaboration with the company in the form of a development partnership.
It’s going to be interesting to see who gains most from this – Porsche or Rimac.
