Range Rover Sport SVR Prototype revealed as most powerful Land Rover ever (video)

The Range Rover Sport SVR Prototype is a first look at Land Rover’s new range-topping Range Rover Sport which will tackle the Goodwood hillclimb this weekend.

What were Land Rover to call the new, powerful, range-topping Range Rover Sport from the new Special Operations division, we wondered. Well, wonder no more – it’s the Range Rover Sport SVR.

The Range Rover Sport SVR has been revealed – in prototype form and still sporting camouflage – ahead of an appearance at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed where it will flaunt its ‘work in progress’ prowess up the Goodwood hillclimb.

Powering the Sport SVR (JLR say all future Special Operations division cars will wear the SVR badge) is the 5.0 litre V8 Supercharged engine in 542 bhp guise (just like the Jaguar XJR or F-Type R) which we expect should put the RRS SVR somewhere in the mid-high 4 seconds to 62mph. Land Rover aren’t saying – at least not for now.

Land Rover aren’t letting out much information on their first SVR model, but it’s clear there will be suspension modifications to make it more road-focussed and beefier brakes to reign in the extra power, and from what we can see on the camouflaged car the RRS SVR will get a more aggressive body kit too.

The production version of the Range Rover Sport SVR is expected in 2015, but you can see the prototype tackling the hillclimb at Goodwood through this weekend.
