Renault Zoe EV gets cheaper – but only if you hardly use it

Renault has announced that the Zoe EV is now available in the UK for just £189 a month and battery monthly lease costs are now from just £45.

The Renault ZOE eEV is one of the most affordable electric cars in the UK, with prices from £13,345 (after tax-payer bribe) plus a monthly cost for leasing the batteries from Renault. A bit like buying an ICE car and paying a monthly lease for the engine.

But despite the Zoe’s ‘affordable EV’ tag, Renault has not had overwhelming success with the Zoe in the UK since it arrived last year, so they’ve come up with some new incentives to get car buyers to opt for their electric supermini.

That means you can put £1000 down and pay £189 a month for 4 years, but on top of that you’ll have to pay for battery leasing too, although Renault think they’ve got a clincher for that too.

With monthly battery lease price of up to £93 a month, the battery lease costs are half as much again as the lease costs, but Renault are offering battery lease prices from as low as £45 a month. But there’s a catch.

To get the £45 a month battery lease price you have to do under 3,000 miles a year – that’s just over 8 miles a day.

Frankly, if you’re only going to do 8 miles a day you’d be better off keeping the up front cost of the Zoe EV in the bank and using a cab for anywhere you want to go.

But, if you just must have an EV and will hardly use it at all, the Zoe EV is an option.

But we can’t see the offer pushing Zoe sales through the roof.
