Roger Moore’s Aston Martin DBS from The Persuaders up for sale at Bonhams (+video)

March 28, 2014 By Cars UK

The Aston Martin DBS – ‘BS 1’ – used by Roger Moore as Lord Brett Sinclair in the 1970s TV show The Persuaders – is up for auction in May 2014 at Bonhams Aston Martin Works sale.

For those of a certain age, the 1970s TV show The Persuaders evokes fond memories of Roger Moore as Brett Sinclair and Tony Curtis as Danny Wilde fighting crime on the French Riviera and driving an Aston Martin DBS and Ferrari Dino respectively.

Now, more than 40 years since The Persuaders was aired, the Aston Martin DBS used by Brett Sinclair is to be offered for sale publicly for the first time at Bonhams Aston Martin works sale in May.

With The Persuaders the most glamorous and expensive of Lew Grade’s TV adventures, the Aston Martin DBS was the perfect fit for Lord Brett Sinclair’s character (although the Tony Curtis/Danny Wilde Dino wasn’t exactly top-drawer Ferrari) and Aston Martin worked with ITC to make everything work for the show.

That included providing a full-time mechanic on set (Astons were never the most reliable of cars – especially in the 1970s) and, although BS 1 appeared to be a DBS V8, it was actually a six-pot DBS titivated to look like a V8 as V8 production hadn’t actually started when the series began.

The registration number of the Persuaders DBS V8 was ‘BS 1’ – Brett Sinclair – which was actually owned by Billy Smart (he of Circus fame, who willingly gave permission for his reg no to be used), although the real registration was (and is) PPP 6H.

After The Persuaders ended, the DBS was sent back to Aston Martin for a refurb before being sold off and now, after 5 owners, a complete restoration in the 1990s and 70,000 miles, Bonhams are offering the car for sale at their Aston Martin Works sale in May.

It may not be a James Bond Aston Martin, but as famous Aston Martins go the Persuaders DBS V8 isn’t far behind. Bonhams expect it to fetch something north of £350k, so if your pockets are deep enough you need to get to the Aston Martin works sale in Newport Pagnell on 17th May 2014.
