An electric Saab prototype – the Saab 9-3 EV – has been revealed by Saab owners National Electric Vehicles Sweden (NEVS) with a 140 PS electric motor.
When National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) bought what was left after the debacle of bankruptcy, the plan was to create a range of electric cars using the Saab brand. But that hasn’t gone to plan, even though the first electric Saab 9-3 Prototype has now been revealed.
But now – at the same time as looking for a partner to help share the burden of making Saab an EV manufacturer – NEVs has revealed their first electric car prototype, a Saab 9-3 that looks just like it always did but with an electric power plant lurking under the skin.
Although NEVS aren’t exactly forthcoming with detail, they do say the 9-3 EV gets an electric motor delivering 140 PS and able to get the 9-3 top 62mph in around 10 seconds and offer a range of 125 miles.
NEVS also say that the packaging of the 9-3 EV means there is no loss of space in the cabin as the (unspecified) battery bank has been located under the floor and that the 9-3 EV gets a 50:50 weight distribution.
NEVS are planning to use a small fleet of 9-3 EV prototypes to further develop the platform and drivetrain before it goes in to production. When that will happen remains to be seen.
