The Shanghai Motor Show organisers are contemplating banning scantily-clad models from parading at this year’s show in April.
Back in 2012, Chinese authorities reprimanded the organisers of the Beijing Motor Show for allowing scantly-dressed models to parade their assets alongside the new cars on display.
As a result of that – and subsequent similar complaints at other more minor car shows in China – it seems organisers of this year’s Shanghai Motor Show – which starts on 22 April 2015 – are worried that they may come under the same scrutiny – and suffer the same rebukes – as the Beijing Show did, so they’re considering pre-emptive action.
The Shanghai Auto Show organising committee stated:
Organizers are considering related measures to ensure that the show returns to its original spirit of showcasing auto technology and products. We’re not ruling out banning car show models.
It would seem a bit odd to have a motor show without models adorning the car makers stands, but – for better or worse – Chinese authorities are perfectly entitled to discourage things they disapprove of.
So if in the event Shanghai does ban models from the show, you’ll have to make do with the gallery of photos – and a video – of Li Ying Shi from the 2012 Beijing Motor Show (below).
