Skoda Rapid Replacement TEASE begins
The debut of the replacement for the Skoda Rapid starts with a single shadowy profile tease image as Skoda aims at the VW Golf with a new model.
The Paris Motor Show has already shown us the direction the replacement for the Skoda Rapid is going with a look at the Skoda Vision RS Concept, but now Skoda are starting to trumpet the arrival of the Rapid’s replacement in earnest.Skoda has released a single image (above) of what they are calling ‘an all-new hatchback’ which will move Skoda’s design language forward (presumably in the direction of the Vision RS), be revealed before the end of the year and be a five-door.
Beyond that, Skoda aren’t forthcoming with any detail, but it seems certain the new Skoda will not get the Rapid name, will be built on the VW A0 MQB platform and come as both a hatch and estate.
It also seems likely that the new Skoda – pitched against cars like the Ford Focus and VW Golf – will come not only with the usual petrol and diesel engine options, but with a hybrid RS version delivering 240bhp from the combination of 1.5 litre petrol engine and electric motor.
Although a public debut for the new Skoda seems most likely to be at Geneva next spring, Skoda do say they will reveal the new car before the end of the year. Perhaps the Geneva debut for Skoda will be a production version of the Vision X Concept?
